For someone with a Colorado Driver’s License, the points you are allowed before you lose your license depends on your age.

• If you are over 21 years of age, the accumulation of twelve points or more within any twelve consecutive months or eighteen points or more within any twenty-four consecutive months can result in the loss of your license.
• In the case of a driver 18 years of age or older, the accumulation of nine points or more within any twelve consecutive months or twelve points or more within any twenty-four consecutive months can result in the loss of their license.
• In the case of a driver 18 years of age or older, the accumulation of fourteen points or more for violations occurring after reaching the age of 18 years but before turning 21 can result in the loss of their license.
• In the case of a minor driver under the age of 18 years, the accumulation of more than five points within any twelve consecutive months or more than six points for violations occurring prior to reaching the age of 18 years, can result in the loss of their license.

People often think it is easier to just pay the ticket and take an automatic reduction in points that may be offered. You may be able to do significantly better depending on the jurisdiction and the violation you are charged with.
